1. North Carolina’s State Government Complex.  A few more views from a recent walk on a beautiful Saturday morning.  These spaces and surfaces offer a great opportunity for the study of light and composition, but I suspect they are a bit lacking in soul in terms of dwelling. Modernism and post-modern Modernism : there can be too much of it when reduced to the lowest common denominators. The same of it all is that the green space in the center is a fantastic civic space, cut off from the city…but one that could be offered as one of the best outdoor amenities in Raleigh. The buildings that front it (with the exception of the Legislature building at the south end - not pictured) make it feel a bit 1984 in both an Orwellian sense and in feeling dated.
